Moosburg has built a fence around his Marian column - which several city councils sharply criticize. However, the mayor cannot understand the excitement.

Moosburg - There are only a few meters of metal grilles, but in the middle of Moosburg's political summer break, they caused outrage to city councilors: After employees of the building yard fenced in the Marian column on the town square on Tuesday, representatives of the Greens in particular are now sharply criticizing the measure.

The background to the excitement lies in the building committee debate on March 6, 2017: At that time, the demand for the restoration of the fence around the statue of the saint, which was stored in the building yard during the new Feyerabendhaus building, did not find a majority. Even the outcry of the then Vice-Mayor Josef Dollinger, who made sitting on the steps of the Marian Column close to blasphemy, could not change that. “I wouldn't leave my shoes on in a mosque either,” he complained at the time.

In the meeting, Johann Zitzlsberger (†, left) pointed out that the base of the column was also so heavily frequented because there was a public WiFi hotspot there and it was used a lot by refugees. For him, the decision against a fence was therefore also a symbol of the welcoming culture for asylum seekers in the city. Because the discussion was also about upgrading the square between the town hall and the Feyerabendhaus, but the commissioned concept for street furniture was not ready (and still is not), the redesign was postponed.

Member of the Bundestag and City Councilor Johannes Becher called for an open letter to Mayor Josef Dollinger on Wednesday for the fence to be "dismantled immediately". Becher: "The decision is still valid and has to be respected by the administration." In a telephone conversation with the town hall it was explained to him that the fencing had been arranged by Josef Dollinger.

The local chief confirmed this at the request of the FT - and justified the procedure: “The building committee was not passed over, the decision is known to me. But we now have a different situation: In the past few days, a lot of people have been at the pillar and that was not Corona-compliant. "The city had to act, said Dollinger. The fact that rustic wooden benches were set up to replace the no longer available seating "is of course not a permanent solution," he emphasized. Rather, they followed the suggestion of Nathalie von Pressentin (Greens), who recently called for more seating for the area in the city council. Which street furniture is put up and when depends on the redesign, said Dollinger. “The entire city center is supposed to be designed according to this model.” However, here we have not got beyond the planning phase.

“There is no guarantee that the minimum clearances will be observed on the wooden benches,” says Johannes Becher. In this respect, the arguments of the administration regarding an effective Corona measure did not convince him. For him, the question is rather: "What are our resolutions worth if they can simply be ignored by the administration?" the current situation to which the administration and also its top must adhere. "I therefore assume that this fence will be dismantled immediately until there is another decision," explained Stanglmaier.

Gerd Beubl (SPD) “fully agreed” with Johannes Becher's opinion, as he read by mail on Wednesday. He commented on the fence as follows: "We only hoisted a flag last week - for more tolerance, more openness!"
