Cruise vacationers currently have to be patient, the shipping companies are reluctant to venture back to the seas. Costa and MSC also want to start their first trips again soon.
Genoa (dpa / tmn) - Costa wants to offer its first cruises in the Mediterranean again from September - but initially only for Italian holidaymakers. The shipping company announced this. MSC had previously announced that it would be on the road again from mid-August.
The "Costa Deliziosa" is to undertake one-week sea voyages from Trieste to ports in Italy from September 6th. From September 19th, the "Costa Diadema" is scheduled to leave Genoa for the western Mediterranean. According to current plans, the remaining ships in the fleet should not start operating again until October at the earliest.
At MSC Cruises, the "MSC Grandiosa" will sail in the western Mediterranean from August 16, mainly around Italy. The "MSC Magnifica" will set off for the eastern Mediterranean from August 29th. According to the shipping company, all guests from the Schengen area are allowed to ride, provided they have not tested positive for Corona before the trip.
Aida Cruises, Costa's sister shipping company, had also announced that it would set sail on September 6 after a postponed restart. Tui Cruises is already on the way, initially short trips without going ashore will be offered. Due to the corona pandemic, strict hygiene rules apply on board all cruise ships.
