The sales of the General Company for the Manufacture of Wool and Carpets in Hama since the beginning of this year until the end of last June amounted to 609 million and 519 thousand pounds resulting from the sale of woolen yarns, washed wools and woolen carpets of various sizes through sales outlets in various governorates.

Engineer Muhammad Al-Rajab, General Manager of the company, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the company sold during this period 40,398 square meters of woolen carpets, with a value of more than 455 million pounds, indicating that the company's production of this material during the first half amounted to 25025 square meters, which were sold in full in addition to selling about 15 thousand square meters of the stores of previous years.

He added that the company's sales of woolen carpets achieved a significant increase, as 23,960 square meters were sold during the month of June alone, indicating that the percentage of sales in the Damascus Carpet Factory reached 346 percent, a percentage that is achieved for the first time in many years, although the sale took place outside the marketing season. Because of the large price differences offered by the company compared to the private sector products.

Al-Rajab indicated that, during the aforementioned period, 125 tons of cotton yarn was also produced out of the total planned plan, amounting to 171 tons, with an implementation rate of 73%. The Sweida carpet factory produced 8,288 square meters of its 26,973 square meters plan.

Al-Rajab pointed out that there are a number of difficulties that hinder the production process, most notably the frequent power cuts and the difficulty of securing the imported replacement parts for carpet looms, in addition to the high costs of transportation between the factories, the lack of technical and scientific personnel, and the shortage of workers in various categories.
