Health care workers are at higher risk of infection

The statement was issued by the Hong Kong Association of Public Medical Doctors, the Hong Kong Medical Association, the Frontline Doctors Union, and Chen Peiran, referring to the research published on July 31 by "Needle", which stated that the risk of contracting the new crown virus among hospital medical staff is 24 times higher than that of ordinary people. The risk of infection of medical staff in old hospitals is 16 times higher. Although no one can confirm that every case was infected at work, medical staff taking care of patients will increase the chance of infection.

The statement stated that although protective equipment can reduce the risk of infection, it cannot absolutely protect medical staff, and infection after using protective equipment does not mean community infection. In addition, it is impossible for medical staff to work in hospitals or nursing homes to be "fully armed" every minute and every second. Therefore, infectious diseases are widely spread in the community and medical staff are "incompatible with the two cases" due to industrial infections. Malaysia has also classified the new crown pneumonia as an occupational disease, and Singapore has also launched post-infection support for medical care and other frontline personnel.

Promote the catering industry, security guards and other occupational needs

They pointed out that listing the new crown virus as an occupational disease can strengthen the protection of medical staff so that they do not have to be investigated after the epidemic, and it can also strengthen the confidence of medical staff and society. The Director of the Bureau of Labor and Welfare Law Chi-kwong stated in April that when a new occupational disease is proposed, it is necessary to consult employers, employees, and stakeholders in the insurance industry on legislative amendments. The statement stated that the progress of the authorities is unknown, and it is hoped that the authorities will take into account other occupations that are often in contact with people, such as catering, nursing home employees, security guards, etc., and not give up labor because of the large number of people involved.
