Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reaffirmed his country's stand by Lebanon and its solidarity with him towards the tragedy that befell him as a result of the explosion that occurred in the Beirut port.
"I reiterate the highest levels of solidarity with the Lebanese government and people towards this tragedy," Zarif said in a joint press conference with the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs in the caretaker government, Charbel Wahba, in Beirut, stressing that no foreign party should exploit the tragedy in Lebanon to impose its dictates on it.
Zarif pointed out that just as Lebanon triumphed over the Zionist enemy, it would emerge victorious from this crisis.
Zarif indicated that prospects for possible cooperation with Lebanon at this stage in the fields of reconstruction, medicine, electricity and other vital fields were discussed.
For his part, Wahba affirmed the strength of the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and peoples, noting that the possibilities of assistance from Iran had been reviewed.
The Lebanese President Michel Aoun announced two days ago that the initial estimates of the losses suffered by Lebanon as a result of the explosion in the Beirut port exceeded $ 15 billion, in addition to other material losses.
