Well-known publicist Thomas Friedman today (Saturday) praised the peace agreement signed between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. In an article for the New York Times, Friedman wrote: "A geopolitical earthquake. Just like Trump said, this is a huge breakthrough, affecting the entire region."

"It was Trump's peace plan formulated by Jared Kushner, and their willingness to stick to it, that actually created the raw material for this breakthrough," Friedman wrote, expanding: "The UAE has long sought more open diplomatic ties with Israel, but discussions on how to stop it It was the annexation that created this framework. He claims that the agreement works against Iran and all its affiliates: Hezbollah, Iraqi militias, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Houthis in Yemen and Turkey. All of these, come out losers in the face of the New Alliance, which is forming a new coalition in the Middle East.

"The United Arab Emirates' quiet message to Iran is: 'We have Israel on the side now, so do not mess with us,' and it has an even deeper message," Friedman said. "The UAE tells the Iranians and its affiliates: 'There are currently two coalitions in the region - the one that wants to let the future bury the past, and the one that wants to let the past continue to bury the future. The Emirates take the helm of the first, leaving Iran the second option."

Friedman also referred to the relationship between Israel and the Palestinians, and in his article addressed Abu Mazen: "Return to the negotiating table now, you will find a lot of support from Trump, the Europeans and the Arabs for this position." Friedman further argued that this deal would encourage other Gulf states such as Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, to follow the Emirates and sign similar agreements as well.

"I followed the Middle East too long to write the phrase 'the region will never be the same'," Friedman concluded, expressing hope: "There are other streams - men and women, young people, who are so tired of the old game, the old fights, the old wounds ".
