Griesen - campfires, garbage incineration and campers who spend the night in the caravan in the parking lot: Wolfgang Hagen, who lives in the small district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, reports on these conditions at the railway station in Griesen. Michael Reim (CSU) is a spokesman for Griesen in the market town council. He recently checked on the train station.

“I was in the back and talked to some of the residents,” Reim reports. It was tidied up there and some pieces of furniture were removed from the parking spaces, but it still doesn't look really homely and tidy. The caravans are still on the site. “It's gotten a bit better,” says Reim, who wonders how and where the furniture was disposed of. He knows: “There is not much to be done legally.” He does not know who the owner of the station is. The Griesen representative of the municipal council promises to "stay on the ball" in this matter. Once he has found out who owns the building, he wants to get in touch with the owner, a private individual, and talk about further improvements.

Griesen station area: "Noticeably more rubbish, old caravans, furniture"

Hagen heard of the short-term clean-up campaigns at the Griesen train station. "Better than nothing," he says, "but it is not optimal, there is still a mess there." Store furniture and other things that simply have no place in front of a train station ”.

One and a half years ago, the district youth association (KJR) registered interest in the train station in Griesen. In addition to the Rißbachhaus near Vorderriß and the Lenbachhütte near Linderhof, the property is to be the third youth hostel used by the KJR. “There are currently no contractual agreements,” regrets Arno Rauscher. But the youth association plans to continue the project in the long term.

Griesen train station: "This is not a gem"

Rauscher has noticed what is currently happening at the train station. “It's not a piece of jewelry,” he says. The owner has declared the property as storage space. The municipality will only release the use of the station building again when the planning reservation of the railway, which currently uses a room there, has lapsed. According to Rauscher's level of knowledge, this can be 2023, only then will the Federal Railway Authority give the green light. When the time comes, the KJR acts as the operator of the building in the sense of a youth hostel. “Then it's a beautiful train station again with a great backdrop,” says Rauscher, emphasizing the proximity to nature and the Eib and Plansee lakes.

But that's still a long way off. The site is currently like a “pigsty”, complains Hagen. However, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police are not aware of possible criminal offenses such as open fires or garbage incineration. Press spokesman Markus Stückl points out that private owners are allowed to set up caravans on their property. The hands of the public order office are also tied. "There is nothing we can do about it because it is exclusively private property," says Thomas Bader, an employee of the authority.
