Egypt and Sudan confirmed today that negotiations are the best way to solve the issue of the Renaissance Dam and reach a binding agreement in this regard.
The Seventh Day website quoted Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly as saying in a press conference with his Sudanese counterpart Abdullah Hamdok in Khartoum: “The necessity of reaching a binding agreement on filling and operating the dam to preserve the rights and interests of the three countries, Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, and an agreement on a coordination mechanism between these Countries to settle disputes and reject any unilateral decisions before reaching this agreement.
For his part, Hamdok indicated that a new beginning has been established during which agreements and protocols between the two countries will be activated, indicating the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation relations.
The three countries agreed to an initiative to resume negotiations on the Renaissance Dam presented by the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, according to which Ethiopia delayed the start of the first filling of the dam, but two days after the conclusion of the closing session of the technical and legal committees of the three countries without reaching an agreement, it actually started the process of filling the dam reservoir, which was Addis Ababa started building it in 2011.
