The number of workers benefiting from the “unemployment allowance” provided within the National Campaign for Emergency Social Response has so far reached 35,860 workers whose work was interrupted as a result of the precautionary measures taken to address the Coronavirus, according to the Director-General of the National Fund for Social Aid, Eng. Luay Al-Aranji.

Al-Ornji stated in a statement to the SANA delegate that the total unemployment allowance that was disbursed through the financial directorates in the governorates to the beneficiaries has so far reached 3 billion and 586 million Syrian pounds, where the value of the unemployment allowance for the worker is 100 thousand Syrian pounds, given one time without any deductions or taxes, and it is delivered to the beneficiary personally.

For his part, Director of the Labor Market Observatory at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Mahmoud Al-Kawa explained that workers who received unemployment allowances were audited in coordination with the Ministry and Chambers of Tourism, Trade Union and Workers 'Unions or through volunteer work teams and heads of councils in the governorates in addition to workers' data received through direct registration on The digital channel launched by the Ministry to register directly.

Alcoa pointed out that the total number of workers registered to benefit from the campaign through the digital channel amounted to more than 375,000 workers, 102,000 of whom work in the “tourism sector, pregnancy, porterage, handicraft and service drivers,” pointing out that the data audit process is still ongoing and the nominal lists of those eligible for allowance are issued periodically. So far, 6 lists have been issued.

It is noteworthy that the National Emergency Social Response Campaign launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor on April 16th, in part, targets daily-workers and self-employed people whose work was suspended as a result of the measures taken to address the Corona virus, as a one-time material allowance is given to them while food and health baskets were provided. And sums of money to support the two groups of elderly people over seventy years of age and persons with disabilities who were also targeted by the campaign.

The first nominal list of beneficiaries of the unemployment allowance was announced on the 23rd of last May and the financial directorates in the governorates began to hand it over on the second of last June, according to the nominal lists received from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, respectively.
