After Olaf Scholz was nominated as SPD candidate for chancellor, the Social Democrats are increasing according to a survey. The Union is easily losing approval.
Berlin (dpa) - After Olaf Scholz was nominated as candidate for chancellor, the SPD gained three percentage points in a survey. This emerges from the Sunday trend of the Kantar opinion research institute for "Bild am Sonntag".
Accordingly, the Social Democrats come to 18 percent (15 percent) this week and are again ahead of the Greens with 16 percent (18 percent). The Union also loses two points and this week comes to 36 percent. The polls of the FDP (6 percent), Linke (8 percent) and AfD (11 percent) remained unchanged from the previous week.
Almost every third respondent (29 percent) thinks Scholz is suitable for the office of Federal Chancellor, according to another survey for the "BamS". Only Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) did better, who 38 percent consider suitable. The CDU politicians Friedrich Merz (19 percent), Jens Spahn (18 percent) and Armin Laschet (13 percent) are clearly behind. Green boss Robert Habeck was also more popular than Laschet with 18 percent. According to the survey, 9 percent currently trust the Green leader Annalena Baerbock to run the Chancellery.
The board and presidium of the SPD had unanimously nominated Scholz as chancellor candidate for the federal election in 2021 on Monday. Confirmation at a party congress is no longer necessary. The SPD is the first party represented in the Bundestag with a candidate for chancellor for the election in autumn 2021.
