Tishreen Military Hospital in Damascus recorded the first Caesarean delivery of a woman infected with Coronavirus and the newborn without HIV.
According to the hospital’s official Facebook page, the woman went to the hospital while she was pregnant “in the 38th week of pregnancy” and infected with Coronavirus two weeks ago. She was admitted to the hospital’s medical isolation department with continuous follow-up on a daily basis by a multidisciplinary committee to discuss problematic cases and a decision was taken to terminate the pregnancy. A cesarean section was performed last Thursday, with all the recommended isolation precautions, according to the protocol in force at the hospital, to approach patients infected with the virus.
The surgery was performed in the women's operations department according to the official hospital page, which indicated that the mother and newborn are in good health, and the newborn is not infected with Coronavirus.
The hospital confirmed that the surgical work was carried out in an organized and accurate manner and according to what is planned by the Corona Patient Follow-up Team and the recommendations of the multidisciplinary committee concerned with discussing problematic and complex cases that hold its sessions daily under the supervision and follow-up of the hospital director and with the support of the Military Medical Services Department.
