TRIBUNE - In a magnificent meditation, the philosopher and essayist Bérénice Levet defends the statues of our historical figures that certain activists would like to destroy.


Bérénice Levet has published in particular “The Imaginary Museum of Hannah Arendt. In the preface to La Révolte des masses that he wrote for French readers, the philosopher Ortega y Gasset recounts how, during a stay in Paris, he realized that he did not know anyone in the capital, “nobody… except the statues” : “Among them,” he relates then, “ I met old friendships which had stimulated my intimate life or had been its lasting masters. Having no one to talk to, it was with them that I spoke. (…) Perhaps one day I will print these Interviews with the Statues which have softened a painful and sterile stage in my life. ” Magnificent
