The 348 residents of two campsites and a subdivision of a hundred houses in Faucon, in the Vaucluse, near Vaison-la-Romaine, were preventively evacuated on Saturday evening, a fire having broken out nearby, said firefighters to AFP. At around 11 p.m., the fire, which started in the early evening, had covered nearly 100 hectares and burned 80 hectares of vegetation, according to the firefighters of Vaucluse.
As a preventive measure, the firefighters evacuated around 300 tourists from two campsites as well as around 100 houses in a subdivision. On site, 280 firefighters from Vaucluse were joined by 260 reinforcements from neighboring departments. At the height of the fire, air assets were triggered - 3 Dash and 7 Canadairs.
The multipurpose room in Vaison-la-Romaine was opened to accommodate evacuees.
This Sunday morning, the fire was fixed, but remains active in certain sectors, we learned from the firefighters. The fire had traveled 130 hectares, but had not affected any home, firefighters told AFP. A reception center had been opened in Vaison-la-Romaine, in partnership with the Red Cross, to welcome them.
Sunday morning, around 8:00 am, 274 firefighters from Vaucluse and more than 260 reinforcements remained mobilized.
