SPD leader Norbert Walter-Borjans in the ZDF "summer interview"

"If we rule out an option for an alliance with the left from the outset, then we can also say directly that we want to continue to wither as junior partners in a grand coalition," he said in the ZDF "summer interview".
Politics in Germany must again be distinguishable in that the SPD is not looking for a majority in a coalition with the CDU and CSU, but with others. The SPD must again be ready to talk to all democratic forces in the Bundestag. He expressly includes the left, not the AfD. "In the end it always decides how much social democracy we can get through," added Walter-Borjans, referring to possible coalitions.
Prospect for improvement
Federal Finance Minister Scholz, who was elected Chancellor candidate by the SPD, recently said with a view to a possible alliance with the Greens and the Left in the coming year that there are "still many questions, there will certainly be a lot to discuss".
In view of the SPD's recently slightly increased polls, Walter-Borjans said in the interview for the program "berlin direkt" that he would have "clearly wanted a quick upswing". There is a good chance that this will improve. He pointed out that there are many polls, according to which 30 percent describe the SPD as the party that is closest to them.
The goal remains to "get these people excited again for the SPD". At the same time he admitted: "It's a thicker board than I initially thought, but I still believe that we can do it."
