The car ended up on the roof, its hood twisted from the shock. An RER D train struck it this Saturday evening around 10:15 p.m. rue Pasteur, near the primary school, on the level crossing connecting the municipalities of Ormoy and Mennecy. This Monday, the 39-year-old driver is still hospitalized and is in a coma.
When the collision took place, the car was coming in the downhill direction. If the accident occurred in Ormoy, its carcass was dragged about twenty meters, to Mennecy. She finished her race on the side.
The driver slipped between the two barriers
According to the mayor (SE) of Ormoy, Jacques Gombault, who consulted the CCTV cameras, “the car passed while the barriers were down and the light was flashing red”. "The driver would have slalomed to avoid the barrier," confirms the mayor (UDI) of Mennecy, Jean-Philippe Dugoin-Clément. Contacted, the SNCF confirms for its part that after expertise, the motorist "went into a chicane on the level crossing".
This Saturday evening, the municipal police of Mennecy, the gendarmerie and the railway security of the SNCF went on site. The RER D line train, which came from Paris and contained passengers, was stopped. A substitute bus has been chartered to take travelers to their destinations.
"Teufeurs" on board the train
At the same time, around thirty fairly alcoholic "chirps" were going to the illegal rave party in Boutigny-sur-Essonne. “It was not easy to manage for the gendarmes in addition to the accident,” says Jean-Philippe Dugoin-Clément.
According to the mayor of Ormoy, this level crossing is not particularly problematic. He calls for the responsibility of the drivers, evoking another collision seven years ago between a school bus and a train. “A driver broke down on the tracks had tried to repair his vehicle for twenty minutes,” he recalls. However, there is an assistance telephone near the passage… ”.
