Former US envoy to the Middle East, Jason Greenblatt, claimed this morning (Tuesday) that Israel had not waived the application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria under the normalization agreement with the United Arab Emirates.

Regarding a question about the purchase of weapons by the United Arab Emirates from the United States that met with Israeli opposition, Greenblatt said he believes the administration will not give its consent to anything that will put Israel in danger. "Israel may have shown flexibility in an arms deal with the United Arab Emirates, but I'm not worried about that." Greenblatt who left office a few months ago mentioned he was not in the room himself.

"It is important to look at the word chosen by the three parties in the official agreement, and it is the word 'stay'. We will deal with the issue of Judea and Samaria over time. I think it is a tremendous diplomatic achievement," Greenblatt noted in an interview with the GLC.

Greenblatt congratulated Israel and the United Arab Emirates on the agreement. He noted that he supported the application of sovereignty over territories in Judea and Samaria and disagreed with the terminology of annexation. He further argued that as part of the Trapp administration's peace plan the terminology was changed to change the misconception inherited over the years.

"I think we need to fight slowly and deal with it step by step. The United States has already recognized Jewish history in Judea and Samaria."

Greenblatt said he agreed with Prime Minister Netanyahu in his decision to suspend sovereignty following the agreement with the United Arab Emirates, but must not lose direction and this matter should return to the table.
