Halle (dpa) - A nationwide right-wing extremist from Halle has to answer in court today, Tuesday. The public prosecutor's office accuses him of hatred, slander, insult, defamation and insulting religious societies and ideological associations.

The 49-year-old is said to have hounded against migrants and slandered people of political life via an internet blog since 2016. This included Green politicians and a former SPD leader, as a spokesman for the district court announced.

The Bundestag member Renate Künast (Greens) had previously prevailed against the right-wing extremist from Halle before the Frankfurt / Main regional court in the fight against hatred on the Internet. The judges sentenced him to a fine of 10,000 euros at the end of January, a spokeswoman reported. He had not correctly reproduced Künast in a Facebook entry.

Sven Liebich from Halle is named in the constitution protection report of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. He has been classified as right-wing extremist for years. He appears primarily as a provocateur and conspiracy theorist. In Halle, the 49-year-old speaks out loudly at his rallies in the city center, accompanied by supporters of his ideology.

The Lord Mayor Bernd Wiegand (independent) of the city on the Saale, which has around 240,000 inhabitants, has meanwhile asked the police not to allow Liebich's rallies on the market square. Initiatives against the right, churches, retailers and citizens in the city try to prevent the right-wing extremist's appearances. Additional market stalls were set up and church bells were rung to drown out slogans. The district court has scheduled further hearing dates until the end of August.
