Trump: I moved the embassy to Jerusalem for the evangelicals

Tuesday, 18 August 2020, 11:08US President Donald Trump said tonight (Tuesday) that he recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel "for the sake of the evangelists." Evangelicals are one of the important bases of support for the Republican president, who during his tenure has made a series of moves that have advanced their agenda.
Trump made the remarks during a rally in Wisconsin, one of the key states in the upcoming November election, and attacked his Democratic opponent Joe Biden. He attacked the former vice president and the foreign policy of his predecessor in office, President Barack Obama,
"and we moved the capital of Israel to Jerusalem. It's for the evangelists. You know it's amazing, the evangelists are more enthusiastic than the Jews. It's true," Trump continued. The president recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced his intention to move the US embassy there in 2017. At the time, he claimed that the decision was made "in accordance with the interests of the United States and for the advancement of peace between Israel and the Palestinians."
Trump even mentioned his decision to recognize Israel's sovereignty in the Golan Heights. "The Golan Heights, do not forget. The Golan Heights, we did the Golan. We did a lot," the president said.
