Several steps taken by government agencies to encourage investment in Syria and the success of the import substitution program, which secures self-sufficiency and reduces the import bill in light of the conditions of coercive economic measures imposed.

The Director General of the Investment Authority, Median Diab, stated in a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the Syrian Investment Authority has offered new investment opportunities in the manufacturing and extractive industries sector to investors in the country and abroad, in cooperation with a number of public agencies, indicating that these opportunities have all the incentives and exemptions contained in Legislative Decree No. 8 For the 2007 investment promotion program, in addition to its support with benefits and facilities for the import substitution program.

Diab emphasized that Syria has a good investment environment, which is the best among the countries of the region because of the components and elements it provides that support investment, revealing that 29 investment projects have been included since the beginning of the year, the value of its machinery and equipment is more than 900 billion Syrian pounds, and it provides about 8,900 new job opportunities in addition to securing important local products.

Diab pointed out that the attracting projects are divided between the extractive industries sector, the engineering and chemical industries, in addition to the renewable energy sector, the transport sector, and agricultural and animal production, pointing out that the most important of these projects is the black cement production project, the production of human medicines and pharmaceuticals, the generation of electricity by relying on solar energy, and projects for raising cattle and sheep and producing Milk and its derivatives, in addition to projects for the extraction and investment of marble and lime rocks, the filling of rock salt, and projects for mass transit.

He added that all investment opportunities presented by the authority were included, in addition to investment opportunities presented by investors, indicating that the authority is working to implement national investment policies by developing and enhancing the investment environment and setting directions and government support for investment activity in accordance with easy and simple procedures.
