Oscar-winning Cuba Gooding Jr. accused of rape

A woman filed a civil lawsuit Tuesday, accusing the American comedian of raping her twice at a Manhattan hotel in 2013.


Complaints have been mounting against him since the #MeToo movement. Accused on numerous occasions of sexual harassment, the American actor Cuba Gooding Jr. is now the subject of a complaint for rape, filed in civil proceedings Tuesday, August 18. A woman, who remains anonymous, accuses him of having raped her in a Manhattan hotel seven years ago. The deposition was recorded in federal court in Manhattan and quoted in several US media.

After inviting her to come have a drink, the actor would have taken her up to his room. She says she wanted to leave after he started to undress in front of her, but he allegedly stopped her, pushing her onto the bed to rape her twice, although she kept asking him to Stop. "Our client makes very serious allegations against Cuba Gooding Jr. in the complaint that we have registered, she is anxious to obtain justice in court," Gloria Allred, lawyer for the alleged victim, told AFP, who claims damages for an unspecified amount.

“These allegations are false and perjury,” the actor's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, told AFP. "We think the file will be rejected." It is not known whether the woman behind the civil rape action contacted the police or the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

Accused by about twenty women

Since 2019, around 20 women have accused Cuba Gooding Jr. of forced touching or sexual harassment. He was charged with sexual assault on three of them. His trial in Manhattan was due to start in April, before being postponed sine die because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He is among the men of the spectacle who fell from grace with the #MeToo movement, which in February obtained a spectacular victory with the sentencing of ex-film producer Harvey Weinstein to 23 years in prison.
