Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced today that Moscow is closely monitoring the development of the situation in the Federal Republic of Belarus with great interest and concern.
Peskov told reporters in Moscow, "Russia and Belarus are two countries very close to each other, and their relationship is based on common economic and cultural foundations and are linked to each other by deep historical ties, and therefore we are watching what is happening there with great interest and great concern."
Peskov added, "During the recent phone call between President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, it was stressed the need to avoid any outside interference in the internal affairs of Belarus and to allow the citizens of Belarus to solve their problems by themselves and through legal frameworks."
Peskov pointed out that the current events in Belarus are an internal affair for this country and it is very important that matters take place within the framework of preserving the legal ground for establishing a national dialogue there.
And Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed during a television interview earlier today that the aim of Western interventions in Belarusian internal affairs is to impose the order that they see useful for them, indicating that the settlement of the situation in this country does not need mediation from anyone.
