A 43-year-old man is suspected of having stabbed his 40-year-old companion on the night of Wednesday to Thursday in Rennes. He was taken into custody in the wake, we learned Thursday from the prosecution.
“A man born in 1977 was taken into custody last night in Rennes. He is suspected of having killed his partner, born in 1980 in their apartment "located in the north of the Breton capital, Maurepas district, prosecutor Philippe Astruc told AFP. According to France Bleu, the suspect has already been convicted of domestic violence in 2015.
47 suspected feminicides since early 2020
This tragedy brings to at least 47 the number of suspected feminicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, AFP identified at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, or a woman every three days on average.
According to figures from the investigation by the delegation to victims made public by the Ministry of the Interior on Monday, 146 women were killed in 2019 by their spouse or ex-companion, 25 more than the previous year.
