(CNN Spanish) - The president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, made this Wednesday a call to the main leaders and sectors of the country to build in the next 10 days an alternative route to the parliamentary elections called by the government of Nicolás Mature.
Guaidó, recognized as interim president by at least 55 countries, said that this unitary alternative must incorporate actions aimed at denouncing and ignoring the parliamentary elections of December 6, as well as calling on the people to express their own will in an alternative mechanism and activate a mobilization agenda to urge the action of the armed forces and the international community.
Guaidó made a special call to listen and incorporate their views to opposition leaders such as the former deputy María Corina Machado, the former opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles and the national coordinator of Popular Will, Leopoldo López.
Guaidó previously supported a statement signed by 27 political organizations that decided not to participate in the December election, considering that the conditions do not exist and that these elections do not meet international standards.
The deadline for the registration of candidates for deputies was extended until August 26 and the National Electoral Council assures that 107 political organizations have expressed interest in joining the process.
