Steve Bannon, former adviser to Donald Trump, was arrested Thursday for embezzlement, online fraud and misuse of corporate assets. He was scheduled to appear the same day in federal court for the Southern District of New York, which deals with financial crimes.
Bannon is accused of embezzling funds raised in a campaign to fund the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Taking up one of Donald Trump's main campaign slogans in 2016, Bannon and his alleged accomplices, Brian Kolfage, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea, had titled their operation "We Build the Wall" ("We are building the wall"). They had raised over $ 25 million online.
