Two young men have so far been arrested on suspicion of raping the 16-year-old girl in Eilat. According to the police, there are currently indications that the two, residents of Hadera, are involved, but the possibility is being investigated that during the rape, other people were in the hotel room, some of whom watched what was happening and did nothing about it. Police today began an attempt to identify participants by photos from the hotel and are preparing for further arrests.

Police received documentation from the security cameras at the hotel where the incident took place, in which a crowd was seen near the room where the acts were allegedly committed. Investigators began identifying those photographed ahead of further investigation into the affair.

According to the suspicion, a large group of men was present in the room where the girl, a resident of Ashkelon, who was under the influence of alcohol, was raped. She complained about it to the police last week. Investigators are examining, among other things, whether one of those involved photographed what took place inside the room.

The Red Sea Hotel in Eilat where the rape allegedly took place

According to the police, the girl and her friend were in Eilat with another group of boys, and in the evening in question they drank alcohol. After not feeling well, she went with her friend to the bathroom in one of the rooms in the hotel - where we were not at all. There, the girl came across young people who offered her help.

At one point, the investigation revealed, the suspects in the act were urged to get out of the girl's company and bring things that would improve her condition. Then, according to the suspicion, some young men began to rape the girl. When her friend returned to the room she tried to enter - but these did not allow her. However, she was able to spot some of the occurrences, and she even turned to other girls to try to prevent the incident but failed in doing so as well.

The Red Sea Hotel in Eilat where the rape allegedly took place

Yesterday, a 28-year-old resident of Hadera was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the case, and the Magistrate's Court in Kiryat Gat extended his detention by five days. The young man is known to the police, and was recently released from a one-year prison sentence for property offenses, with some of the cases still pending. During the investigation, it became clear that an exchange of text messages had taken place between the suspect and the girl after the incident. According to his version - he stayed at the Red Sea Hotel in Eilat and has no acquaintance with the girl and the other young people who were in the room, and they just walked around the hotel with young people they knew there.

The suspect claimed that he did indeed see a large number of young men having sex with the girl, although he himself did not. At some point, the suspect claimed, he was not in the room at all, and when he was, he claimed he could not prevent dozens of people from committing the acts due to the fear of being attacked. He further said that he thought she was the one who called them.

Advocate Ofra Siboni, who is representing the suspect on behalf of the Public Defender's Office, said in response that he denies what is attributed to him. "We are waiting for the police to check his version soon."
