Lufthansa is making slow progress with reimbursement for flights that were canceled during the Corona crisis. Many customers have to be patient.
Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - Around 1.4 million customers of the Lufthansa Group are still waiting for ticket refunds for flights that were canceled in the Corona crisis.
According to its own statements, the partially nationalized company has made progress in processing it in the past few weeks and has paid out EUR 2.3 billion to 5.4 million customers this year.
From the first half of the year around 8 percent of the cases were still not settled, the company announced in Frankfurt. They should be processed by the end of August. The majority of the open proceedings thus relate to more recent cancellations.
Under EU law, airlines are obliged to reimburse the ticket price within seven days for cancellations initiated by them.
After the collapse of air traffic in March, Lufthansa switched off automatic reimbursement processes and insisted on individual checks. Like other companies, it also tried to satisfy customers with vouchers. The procedure triggered sharp criticism from consumer advocates and reports to the aviation authorities.
