The student union failed to submit five-year financial records and resigned as honorary auditor

City University Dean Cui Yongkang issued a notice today (21) stating that according to school records, the then City University Counselor and the Director of Student Development Office met with the then Chairman of the Student Union, Student Union Financial Secretary and Student Union Honors on January 3, 2013. The treasurer and other representatives of the student union expressed their deep concern about the financial management of the student union. During the meeting, the university also expressed strong concern about the student union’s failure to submit financial records from 2006 to 2011, which led to the resignation of the honorary auditor of the student union in December 2012, and other long-standing financial management issues of the student union.

The university has made it clear in the meeting that day that while collecting dues on behalf of the student union, the university has the responsibility to ensure that the student union uses funds properly and keeps records; if the student union fails to make improvements in accordance with the timetable for various specific requirements, including reappointment and approval Professionals such as mathematicians and accountants verify their accounts and submit complete financial reports. The school will no longer collect membership fees on behalf of the student union in the future.

Refers to previous negative reports

The notice continued that the financial management of the Student Union continued to be poor, and that the media had also reported extensively on the unclear accounts and poor financial management of the City University Student Union, which were repeatedly seriously questioned. For example, a former member of the Student Union’s editorial board was convicted of forging accounts in 2004 , In 2017, the orientation camp held a loss of 304,000 yuan. According to records, the Student Union has not yet submitted a financial report signed by the auditor.

The City University Student Union is an off-campus registered association independent of City University and has no affiliation with the University’s Finance Office. In the past, the school has repeatedly reminded the student union to correct the problem as soon as possible. The then Dean of Academic Affairs and the Finance Office once again discussed relevant matters with the Student Union last year. The Student Union promised to make improvements and agreed to handle membership fees on its own. This matter has also been known to many faculty and students. After further discussion with the current student union earlier, the student union recruits members and collects membership fees on its own.
