Report: Mossad chief Yossi Cohen recently met with a senior Sudanese official
According to a report in the London-based Al-Arabi newspaper Al-Jadid, Cohen met with the deputy leader of the ruling sovereignty council in the country, mediated by the United Arab Emirates and with the participation of senior officials from the country. The Sudanese army is interested in advancing relations with Israel, while civilian elements in the government involved are reluctant to do so.

Mossad chief Yossi Cohen recently met with a senior Sudanese official mediated by the United Arab Emirates, the London-based Al-Arabi newspaper Al-Jadid reported today (Friday). According to the report, Cohen met with General Muhammad Hamdan Degalo, the deputy leader of the country's ruling sovereignty council. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Emirates, including National Security Adviser Tahanon Ben Zayed.
According to the report, the UAE organized the meeting as part of an attempt to advance further agreements between Israel and Arab countries. The Sudanese army is interested in advancing relations with Israel, while civilian elements in the mixed government are reluctant to do so.
A spokesman for Sudan's sovereign council, Muhammad al - Faki Suleimani, said he had no information about such a meeting and that the sovereign council had not discussed the issue recently. He told the newspaper that after the head of the Sovereignty Council, 'Abd al-Fatah al-Burhan, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu without the knowledge of the government, the issue of relations with Israel passed to the civilian government.
