Floods caused by torrential rains that have hit Sudan for nearly a month have left 72 dead, according to a new assessment provided Friday, August 21 by the civil defense.

In 2019, torrential rains affected 400,000 people throughout the season, according to a spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha).
According to the latest report from Ocha in Sudan dated August 19, 263,645 people are " affected " by the floods this year. The two most affected states are Kordofan-Ouest (south) and Kassala located in the east of the country.
