A 22-year-old young man was arrested this Friday after having beaten to death and set fire to an 80-year-old retiree last Thursday in the San Gabriel neighborhood, in the Buenos Aires town of José C. Paz.
" I sent the shit of the year, " Brandon Galeano, alias "Titi", confessed to his mother, who immediately agreed to deliver her son to the police station, as confirmed by police sources.
The victim, Rosario "Charo" Gómez, was found this Thursday dead and with 80% of the body charred, after Galeano, who he called "nephew", beat her to death and set the body on fire to hide the traces.
According to the testimonies of the residents of the area and of the victim's children, the 22-year-old man appeared that day at the victim's door with a can of gasoline in hand .
"The boy lives here a block away and last week he painted the bars for my mother. He had everything premeditated , because this morning (Thursday) he showed up with a can of gasoline and my mother opened him because she wanted me to fix some of the things of the house, "said Mario Ávila, one of Rosario's sons, who lived alone in a house a few meters from Route 24.
He also said that the young detainee stole "a small wallet containing the documents and cards" and "all the money he had collected from retirement a day ago."
"He hit my mother, and when he had her face down, he surely set her on fire to cover the traces," he added through tears.
Galeano will be investigated in the next few hours by the prosecutor Lorena Carpovich, in charge of the decentralized Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 21 in Malvinas Argentinas, San Martín Judicial Department.
