The new Amatrice is not there yet. Four years after the earthquake that razed the municipality of Reatino to the ground, together with Accumoli, which was the epicenter of that terrible shock, as well as a large part of their hamlets, still awaits full reconstruction. The construction sites and the cranes are there, the works are going on, but along the mountain roads that cross the territory hit by the earthquake of 24 August 2016, and by the thousands that followed, one is still forced to deal with an uneven injury. healed. Even if the bulk of the rubble is no longer there, some hamlets, now uninhabited, have remained as they are. As if time had stopped that night, in memory of the pain and the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake to the communities of the Upper Velino. A slow process, that of reconstruction, which seems to retrace a history that has already been lived, not far from the Reatino area, beyond the border mountains, in L'Aquila.
As for private reconstruction, the regional councilor for reconstruction policies, Claudio Di Berardino, explained in recent days, speaking of the state of the art, "we are recording a more significant acceleration in recent months". A push that came in the aftermath of an ordinance by the extraordinary Commissioner who in the last month recorded, in the municipality of Amatrice alone, an increase of about 200 applications for contributions (to cover 100% of the costs), against the approximately 1,500 submitted in 4 years. According to data from the Lazio Region, there are currently 550 construction sites underway for which over 110 million euros have been granted. Loans for a further 55 million are in the approval phase and will be used to start another 600 construction sites by the end of the year.
As regards the public reconstruction, more than 120 interventions are being planned, for some of which the tender procedures for the awarding of the works are already underway. As in the case of the reconstruction of the Grifoni Hospital in Amatrice, which is being finalized in recent weeks. Another 18 public works, for 51 million euros, will start within the year. Among these there is the professional training center and the monumental cemetery of Amatrice, and the 'Pantani' chalet in Accumoli. On the other hand, there are over 100 residential building apartments, already completed or nearing completion, also in Amatrice. They will be delivered to as many families by Christmas, once the connections to the sewer and water system have been completed. As for the historic center of Amatrice, the ancient heart of the city that no longer exists, the Municipality is entrusting the task of drafting the reconstruction plan which also regards the perimeter hamlets. On the other hand, the extraordinary program for the reconstruction of Accumoli is already being approved.
