The World Health Organization and UNICEF confirmed the necessity for children over 12 years of age to wear masks wherever adults should wear them to prevent corona virus.
According to Reuters, the two United Nations organizations did not generally advise in a directive document that children between six and 11 years of age wear masks, indicating at the same time that they should be considered in places with high infection rates or in specific groups such as schools.
The document, which was published yesterday evening, stated that younger children should not be forced to wear masks, mainly because they cannot put on and remove them properly by themselves.
A group of experts from the two organizations said that children up to five years old should be under constant supervision if they wear masks, explaining that the transparent masks provide less protection than masks made of woven cloth that cover the mouth and nose.
According to global data, between 1 to 7 percent of all Corona patients are children and youth under eighteen, while there are conflicting studies regarding whether infected children have the Corona virus in a lesser, more, or equal rate compared to adults.
