Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, Majid Takht Rawanji, announced that his country's response to the attempts of the United States of America to re-impose sanctions imposed by the United Nations on it before 2015 would be proportionate and strong.

Fars News Agency quoted Rawanji as saying: "There is no legal basis for America's allegations that it is still a member in the nuclear agreement to activate the trigger mechanism to restore the UN embargo on Iran and it has failed in its draft decision to extend the arms embargo on Iran."

Rawangi indicated that the US move over the past months was another step in the context of a severe violation of its obligations when it put in place new measures banning nuclear cooperation between Iran and other countries.

Rawanji reiterated that Iran is cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency, pointing out that about 20 percent of the total inspections of the agency during the past year took place in Iran, stressing the need not to politicize the decisions of the International Atomic Energy Agency or relying on false information.

Regarding the Arak nuclear facility, Rawanji said: “We are currently holding talks with our partners about the Arak facility, and in the event that Iran encounters a situation with which it cannot advance the development of this part of the nuclear facilities, we will return to the previous design that is of our own making.”

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5 + 1 group in 2015, and the reinstatement of sanctions against Tehran, despite the European Union's opposition to that.
