He was not inducted into the Hall of Fame

Sherman was the second of at least eight guitarists the band had to top the charts over the years. He played on "Red Hot Chili Peppers" in 1984, toured and co-wrote a few songs for the sequel, "Freaky Styley."

The band's subsequent albums included hits like "Californication" and "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," with hits like "Give It Away."

The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Sherman, however, was not included.

"It's really painful to see all this celebration and be left out," Sherman told Billboard at the time. “I'm not saying that I have given the band anything… but that I have moved on under arduous conditions to try to make it work, and I think that's what you do in a job, looking back. And that has been dishonored.

Singer Anthony Kiedis wrote in his autobiography: "God bless Jack, he kept the band afloat for a year, and if he hadn't, the next few years we probably wouldn't have had them."
