A West African delegation led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan met on Saturday August 22 for half an hour with the junta which seized power in Mali on Tuesday, including the country's new strongman, Colonel Assimi Goïta, noted an AFP journalist.

The envoys from the Community of West African States (ECOWAS) were received by the members of the National Committee for the Salvation of the People at the Ministry of Defense, with whom they spoke for about thirty minutes before leaving without making a statement, according to the same source. They are due to meet ousted President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta in the evening.
