Starnberg - The east bank of Lake Starnberg is idyllic and rural, very different from the glamorous west bank. A dip in the clear, cool water is always worthwhile. The tz gives you tips for stopping off, cycling and hiking.

Hike:

From the Starnberg train station, walk north along the lake promenade, where it turns into Dampfschiffstraße. After a few meters, turn right onto Nepomukweg. At a large parking lot, turn left onto Strandbadstrasse, which you will leave shortly afterwards to the right. Then you go through the port and shipyard area and come to a wooden bridge, behind which you turn directly to the right. The path now leads you along the shore, over another bridge into the recreation area on Lake Starnberg. From there you hike on hiking trails past a nice rest area towards the south. You will pass some chic properties and riverside properties. At the clinic level, the path bends to the left and shortly afterwards to the right again. Then it goes straight for a while in a southerly direction. The path meets Seestrasse, which you follow to the right. In a left bend, Seestrasse turns into Wittelsbacherstrasse, which leads you to Parkweg, on which you then walk to the right past Berg Castle. The castle was once used by King Ludwig II as a summer residence. He moved here every May to enjoy the warm season. On June 13, 1886, he was found dead not far from the castle. The park path first runs through a green area and then through a forest. At a junction keep to the right, you will get closer to the shore and you will soon have reached the votive chapel, which was built in memory of King Ludwig II near the place where he was found in 1886 on the shore of Lake Starnberg. A wooden cross in the water marks the exact location. After visiting the chapel, return to Starnberg the same way you came.

Bike tour:

Not a complete round trip, but mostly on bike paths and without inclines (about 42 km, about 4 hours)

Starting point: Starnberg

From the Starnberg train station you cycle over the station square, cross under the railway tracks to the right and come through the Schiffhüttenweg to the large Münchner Straße. Follow the signs to Percha / Kempfenhausen on the cycle path there. At the end of Kempfenhausen, cycle left into Seestrasse; now you can’t miss the cycle path. You will soon reach the castle park in Berg. Villas and castles line the way to Ammerland; for example Seeburg Castle.

In Ammerland you will pass the palace that King Ludwig I gave to his court ceremonial master Franz Graf von Pocci, the famous Kasperl-Larifari-Count. In Ambach you cycle past a carved wooden gate - it belonged to the estate of the author and Maya the Bee inventor Waldemar Bonsels. This is followed by the large recreation area. The Buscharner Seewirt invites you to stop and the shallow beach is ideal for swimming for children.

On the south bank you can reach Seeshaupt via St. Heinrich (return by steamer). Shortly afterwards you are in Bernried through lakeside and Bernried Park. Shortly afterwards you come to the Buchheim Museum. Now drive past the Höhenried Clinic (Schlosscafe) through an avenue towards Unterzeismering. Shortly afterwards you will reach Tutzing through the lime tree avenue. From here it is advisable to take the last stage back to Starnberg by boat or S-Bahn. Because from Possenhofen on the Seewestufer there is no passable cycle path near the shore!

Tip: If you do want to go back by bike, it is recommended to cycle back from Tutzing via Traubing, the Maisinger See, the Maisinger Gorge and Söcking to Starnberg.
