Between the Rotwand and the Wendelstein near Bayrischzell you can see a sedate green back on the map.

The Seeberg ridge with the bold summit called Seebergkopf leads a shadowy existence next to its well-known neighbors completely wrongly. This quiet mountain destination is initially approached via a long but entertaining valley path. Over the meadows of a glider airfield, you can marvel at the silent gliders and their pilots. As a hiker, however, it is better to save “taking off” for later. The path climbs gently up into the quiet Steilenbachtal, high above the torrent, which gushes over vertical rock steps into the valley. You slowly gain height under an airy canopy of leaves. Then the forest opens up like a bang and reveals a view of a magical high valley. Some huts nestle in the lush meadows of the Klareralm. On the other side of the valley, the imposing Ruchenköpfe push into view. Climbing routes of any difficulty in the optimal pre-alpine rock attract sport climbers there every year. A little below you can sense the Soinsee, in whose waters the legendary bear Bruno once refreshed himself before he found an unworthy end ...

Our ascent leads around the Klareralm and takes a little longer. But it's worth it! The Neuhütte is now in an enviable position. And it looks pretty good for its age (built in 1678) despite the sun-burned wooden walls. In addition, the hut is simply managed in the alpine season. During the snack, the eye wanders over the Ursprung valley to the distant snow giants of the Hohe Tauern and brushes against a stone lump with a banker in front of the Neuhütte. The stone on the vantage point reminds of a sad chapter in history: Here the mountain riflemen stood guard in wind and weather from 1805 to 1809 to defend their homeland against the Tyroleans ...

In the last stage, a stony path leads steadily uphill across alpine meadows and light forest and passes the rustic Seebergalm. The bright blue spring gentian and the filigree alpine bell with pale pink calyxes act as companions. At the end you walk over a wide, grass-strewn ridge to the highest point. There you can expect not only a neat cross with a summit book and hiking stamp, but also a wonderful view of the Chiemgau Alps, the Chiemsee and the Wendelstein, which is within reach. The Seeberg breaks off steeply to the north. Bayrischzell lies deep down in the middle of white and yellow spotted summer meadows. For the descent you then take the “Direttissima”. This narrow path starts behind the buildings of the Seebergalm. You descend over roots, sometimes steep, but never difficult. After a wind-thrown lane, you reach the beautiful pastures at the Klareralm again and at the same time joins the ascent route. Parallel to the rushing river, the route leads out of the valley again.
