Dachau (ge) - Fritz Haberstumpf is dead. The founder of the famous Dachau band "Thunderbirds" and passionate football coach suffered a heart attack on Monday evening during the honorary league match between SG Dachau and FC Uffz Korps / DSC Munich. Despite resuscitation immediately initiated, the 52-year-old died that night in a Munich clinic. Fritz Haberstumpf leaves behind a wife and four children.
"We are totally shocked," said Haberstumpfs team mate Alfred Grund from the Uffz team in Munich. Although with Dr. Walter Schmid, a doctor was one of the party who initiated life-saving measures immediately after Haberstumpf's collapse, any help came too late. The honor league game between the seniors from the Dachau region and Munich was canceled immediately after the tragic incident.
Just a few weeks ago, Fritz Haberstumpf agreed to play in the FC Uffz honor league kickers. "He was only there for the fourth time on Monday, maybe he overran," said Grund, who was horrified to see his teammate suddenly collapse during the break. The equally shocked Karl Reichinger from the host SG Dachau was amazed that it took so long for the emergency doctor to arrive at the sports field in Hebertshausen: "We informed him immediately after Haberstumpf's collapse, but it took 20 minutes for the doctor and Sanka were there. "
The blonde guitar teacher opened his own music shop, the legendary "Music Shop", in Dachau-Ost in 1978. After having been active in the Munich music scene with Günter Sigl (Spider Murphy Gang) for years, he founded the "Thunderbirds" in 1983. They also celebrated great national successes, including appearing in several episodes of the popular television series "Irgendwo & Sowieso".
With great effort, he managed to combine his two passions, football and music, despite the great amount of time he invested. When he was asked once why the band didn't play their own works, he said: "If you compare that to football, we could play in the Bayern League from the perspective of the possibilities, but due to the limited time it is only enough for the district class."
At the anniversary concert for the 15th anniversary of the Thunderbirds in the Dachau freight hall, Fritz Haberstumpf said four years ago: "I think I'll take the Thunderbirds with me to the grave."
