Hammelburg - A man from Hammelburg in Lower Franconia (Bad Kissingen district) stood on Saturday (August 22nd) on the banks of the Saale . He was looking at the stones in the shallow water when a particularly beautiful one caught his eye. But when he lifted it out of the water, he noticed that he wasn't holding a stone in his hand.

Only when the man looked more closely at the alleged stone from the hall did he notice that he had found a hand grenade - probably from the Second World War. The man was so frightened that he simply threw the grenade away. To the chagrin of the policemen who later arrived at the place, he no longer knew in which direction he had hurled them. The old explosive was definitely not detonated by the throw. The man was very lucky that nothing more happened, said a police spokesman .
Since the old grenade is still dangerous, the section on the Saale now had to be closed. Walkers now have to wander around the area between Hammelburg and Diebach . A little later after the find, special forces and staff from the mountain rescue service were already on site to look for the grenade - unfortunately without success.
