The fire at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility last month was caused by a sabotage operation, a spokesman for Iran's nuclear energy agency told Al-Ilam Channel today (Sunday). "The explosion at the nuclear facility in Natanz was the result of sabotage operations, the security authorities will reveal at the right time what led to the explosion," said spokesman Bahruz Kamelbandi.

Last month, Iran's National Security Council announced that the cause of the fire had been discovered, but would be announced later. Officials in the country said the blast led to extensive damage, which could slow the development of advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges.

Several Iranian officials said the fire may have been caused by a cyber-bomb, and warned that Tehran would respond against any country that did so. According to various estimates and reports, Israel is responsible for the sabotage operation. One of the published theories was that a powerful charge was buried in the facility. In Israel, silence is observed.
