Water slows cyclists down

Land under Frohnloh - for those familiar with the area, especially cyclists, this is not big news. Since the Ober- / Unterbrunn bypass was opened, the underpass in the direction of Gilching has been regularly under water, sometimes knee-deep. The state building authority is looking for solutions, but has none yet.

Frohnloh - Gautinger Thomas Criegee (69) has been annoyed about the condition of the underpass between Frohnloh and Gilching for a long time. To be more precise: for eight years, namely since the Ober- / Unterbrunn bypass was built. The connection between Frohnloh and the Gilching industrial area is repeatedly flooded after heavy rain. A solution is in the works, but not in sight.

The water then stands there for a long time. "For days, even more than a week, and not passable," complains Criegee. There is then no getting through for pedestrians and cyclists. The way is an important link between the industrial areas Gilching-Süd and Gauting. If it is not passable, pedestrians and cyclists would have to avoid forest paths on the south side or climb over the guardrail of the busy bypass road and then pass it. "I ask everyone involved to remedy this impossible situation as soon as possible," he wrote in a letter to the State Building Office in Weilheim and the Starnberg District Office. "If structural improvement of the drain / septic tank down in front of the underpass is not possible, the underpass should be pumped out by the Gilching road maintenance department at least shortly after heavy rain," continues Criegee.

Underpass closed after heavy rain

The water in the underpass is pumped out as soon as a company has been found. After the heavy rain at the beginning of August, it wasn't that easy - at least the underpass had been closed. It has already been pumped out several times, for example in 2018. Even then, the district office had complaints, as spokeswoman Barbara Beck said on request. However, the construction authority is the Weilheim State Building Authority. They know the problem there, and the search for a solution has already started. "We are aware that we have to do something", says Rainer Pittrich from the Weilheim authority. There is still no solution, but more infiltration options or a different process are conceivable. But that must first be investigated.

More precipitation in less time, but less

For Thomas Criegee there is a construction error on the part of the building authority. Rainer Pittrich rejects this. He explains that plans are calculated according to fixed formulas, taking into account the amount of rain in liters, the duration of the rain and the area. Only: “We are increasingly finding that the amounts of rain are different.” More precipitation in a shorter time, but less - this is a statement that many make, and it also fits with predictions about climate change. mm
