- Historical association remains active

BY CHRISTIAN L. NUMBERGER Erding - The Erding Historical Association would like to complete a marathon program with fourteen events in the second half of the year. Heike Schmidt-Kronseder, who has a doctorate in art, and her board team presented the program. In addition to numerous excursions, visits to exhibitions and lectures, the highlight of the association year is a top-class nativity scene exhibition entitled "Collectors show their treasures" during the Christmas market in the Frauenkircherl.

"Bavaria is a cultural state" is written in the Free State's constitution. The historical association ensures that people from the district who are interested in art and culture are introduced to history, art and culture in Bavaria. Because only those who know their Bavarian homeland can also get to know and appreciate the small-scale, regional, everyday culture, believes the board of directors. A culture-friendly society also safeguards its own cultural diversity in the Europe of the regions.

Having fun with knight

Matthias vom Moos

In this context, local history is of the greatest importance. History and culture, however, have to be cultivated. Every lecture, every excursion to cultural monuments is a getting to know customs and cultural assets and represents a piece of the mosaic in the broad field of history and homeland maintenance.

The Erding Historical Association does not allow itself a break in August; a holiday program for those who stayed at home has been drawn up again. In addition to an art-historical trip to late Gothic masterpieces around Landshut with tour guide Karl Prechtl (August 10th, afternoon), a journey through time is planned as a special attraction for children and young people, during which they will be whisked away into the world of the Middle Ages by knight Matthias vom Moos ( August 24, afternoon). Of course, the setting must match the stories and music from earlier centuries, so the spectacle takes place in the cellar vault of the Erdinger Weißbräu restaurant. Admission is free.

A visit to the exhibition "Landpartie - From the fine life in the country" in Ismaning is also on the agenda (August 31, afternoon). The large exhibition "Carl Spitzweg" in the Georg Schäfer Museum in Schweinfurt (September 7th, all day), which shows the world's largest and highest quality collection of works by the Munich painter, is also planned as a destination, as is the Bavarian state exhibition "Kaiser Heinrich II." in Bamberg (October 5th, all day). In between, a tour through the Erdingen geo-heating power station is planned, which was part of the Expo projects in 2000 (September 16, 7 pm).

Hartwig Sattelmair is organizing a guided tour through the district's open-air museum especially for children and young people, in order to experience rural life in earlier times in the Erdinger Land (October 12, afternoon). Adults are of course welcome. On the occasion of the town's 950th anniversary, the association visits the two exhibitions on the history of Eichenkofens and visits the subsidiary church of St. Giles. Erika Beil will take over the tour (October 26th, afternoon).

The writer Wolfgang Johannes Bekh could be won over for a slide show about the sculptor Richard Engelmann and his relations to Wartenberg (November 18, 7.30 p.m.).

In the coming year, the historical association will celebrate its 25th anniversary with almost 400 members. For this purpose, among other things, a large exhibition is being put together under the motto "Collectors show their treasures - popular piety in Erding".
