In fact, this is Huang Zhiqiao’s second internship at the Gas Company. In 2018, he participated in a summer internship at the Gas Company. Regarding the internship experience, he believes: "The theory can be put into practice. In fact, it is a good job. Experience, I want to return to work in Hong Kong whenever I have the opportunity."
The Gas Company recruits 60 internships every year. Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the number of applications received this year has reached 4,000, which has doubled the previous 2,000 applications.
The two internship experiences at the Gas Company gave Huang Zhiqiao a good memory. In 2018, after an interview, he entered the Strategy and Innovation Department. The colleague in charge learned that he was good at Computer Aided Design (CAD), so he encouraged him to make use of the gas company's software and hardware. He successfully drew a three-dimensional 3D drawing of the small remote-controlled excavator "Little Swan" during the internship period, and made a physical model with a 3D printer. Although two years have passed, the model is still placed in the company as an exhibit.

Returned to Hong Kong in March to join Gas Company for internship
Affected by the epidemic, many Hong Kong students studying overseas have returned to Hong Kong. Huang Zhiqiao, who studied for a master's degree in aerospace engineering at Imperial College London, also returned to Hong Kong in March. Since the internship two years ago left a lot of good memories, he submitted an application again this year and successfully entered the Enterprise Material Supply Department.
In the new department, Huang Zhiqiao not only participated in the design of the warehouse office, but also came into contact with a lot of knowledge about freight costs and budget calculations. He had a whim, and tried the aviation knowledge learned in school to solve the calculation of freight. It's not feasible, but he thinks such an opportunity is rare. "You can put the theory into practice, but it's actually a good experience."
As for this year's internship, the warehouse office designed by Huang is no longer just a model. The design has been adopted by the Gas Company and has been built at the warehouse in Tai Po. He said with some regret that he couldn't visit the warehouse in person because of the epidemic. Looking at the results of the two-year internship, summarizing the working environment and atmosphere, "If I can, I hope I can return to work in Hong Kong."
From internship to full-time city university girls find the right way
As for Huang Zhilin, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration from the City University of Hong Kong, she was a summer intern of the Gas Company in 2019 and worked in the retail marketing department. During the internship, she designed leaflets and participated in the preparation of large-scale exhibitions. "I feel listened here. Respected.” Because of her excellent performance, she was hired as a part-time marketing assistant in the retail marketing and sales department after the internship, and successfully became a full-time employee to start her career in August this year. In fact, she found out even more during her work. To understand my interest in network marketing, I will therefore seek advice from senior colleagues.

The Gas Company has carried out the summer internship program for 20 years, providing summer workplace learning opportunities for DSE students and college students. During the 8-week internship, the interns can not only visit the gas company's many facilities and projects, but also receive training in presentation skills, office social skills and innovation skills. Finally, they need to complete project studies and charity volunteer activities.
Since the launch of the project, about 2,000 applications have been received every year, and this year it has soared to 4,000 due to the epidemic. Fan Kit-yee, Director of Human Resources of Gas Company, said that after screening and interviews, 60 people will be selected to participate in the internship. She revealed that when selecting interns, the requirements for academic background are not strict.
