Bad Tölz - The large-scale operation on Wachterstrasse in Bad Tölz is still running at the moment (Monday, 7:52 p.m.). The streets around the location below the Mühlfeldkirche are closed. At around 5.30 p.m., the Tölzer Stadtwerke received a report from a civil engineering company that they had probably damaged a gas pipe in a flushing well. "When we arrived on site, we could already hear a strong smell of gas," says Wolfgang Stahl from Tölzer Stadtwerke. The company had already blocked the road at this point. “We tried to seal the damaged area,” says Stahl. However, this was not possible because the actual leak was still covered by soil and digging would have been too dangerous. "The damaged area was not accessible."

Gas alarm on Wachterstrasse: fire brigade evacuates 15 residents

In fact, so much gas had already escaped at this point that there was a risk of explosion in the vicinity. The Tölz fire brigade, which was on duty with around 40 people, therefore cleared house numbers 12, 15 and 17 on Wachterstrasse. 55 residents are registered there, says Tölz commander Thomas Fuchsgruber. “But we only met 15.” The residents of the buildings a little further away were asked by means of a megaphone to keep windows closed and not to leave the house as long as the operation was ongoing.

The municipal utilities are assuming at the hour (8:05 p.m.) that the operation will last until around midnight. The plan is to close the line in front of and behind the damaged area. Then the leak can be exposed and repaired. The gas supply to the houses remains intact.

BRK rescue service is on site with 15 emergency services

But why can't you just turn off the gas? That works - but only in relatively large areas, says Stahl. The result would be that the heating systems in over 100 households would indicate a fault and switch off. “Ultimately, we would have to go into all the houses and start up the systems again - and many people are currently still on vacation,” says Stahl. Overall, it could take weeks for the entire system to be up and running again.

In addition to the fire brigade and the police, the BRK rescue service is also on site with 15 men. The helpers take care of the evacuees if necessary, but also take over the self-protection of the fire brigade forces, explains Lukas von Stülpnagel, head of the rescue service.

In July, the Tölzer fire brigade had to go to a major fire on the Lettenholz. Lightning had set an apartment building on fire there.

A boat tour during flooding on the Isar also triggered a large-scale deployment of rescue workers.
