(CNN Spanish) - In the Dominican Republic, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Monday that at least four people died in Santo Domingo due to the passage of tropical storm Laura.
The director of the COE, Juan Manuel Méndez, indicated that some 8,955 people were evacuated. In addition, 56 communities are isolated, according to the report.
The authorities indicated that 1,791 homes were affected, while some 284 people are in 15 shelters.
According to the COE report, about 700,000 people remain without electricity service throughout the country and more than 1.5 million people are without water supply.
The storm has kept the entire Dominican Republic on alert since Saturday, including two provinces on red alert.
The National Meteorology Office reported that a trough threatens several provinces that already have accumulated water levels of up to 300 millimeters.
