It was hard to watch Bnei Gantz's speech tonight (Monday) without being filled with pity. Already during the election campaign, it was clear that the man had found himself in a situation not his own, whereas now, 100 days after signing an agreement with Benjamin Netanyahu, it can already be said with absolute certainty. Ganz knows that he will never receive the prime minister from Netanyahu, and yet he made it clear that his hand is extended to him for peace. He very much wanted to wrap his scorching surrender in a beautiful package of shroud of righteousness and consideration for the feelings of the public. But even that Netanyahu took to him when he announced before him that he would support postponing the budget.

When the government was formed, most of the public did not want another election, and this may be the case now. But when the alternative is the current government it is not clear how decisive the general determination is to leave it for another 120 days in an artificial respiration of paralysis and dysfunction. 

According to the speeches of the two prime ministers, the real and the alternate, in the last 48 hours the situation has even worsened. Ganz's open support for the Balfour protesters and his announcement that he would not allow Netanyahu to "touch" the rule of law, are like declaring war. The day before, Netanyahu's statement against Ganz, Gabi Ashkenazi and Avi Nissenkorn, also served as a spear to stab the opponent and not to warm up relations with him. So while the budget postponement has postponed the end and left the package intact, it is already clear that the next crisis is only a matter of time. And that the rotation will not be. And that any additional exit station for the election may be provided that it is open before November 21 '- the planned exchange date.

Ganz said his hand was outstretched for peace but his mouth fired only arrows. Many in the Knesset said after the speech that they had never heard Ganz so aggressive and so resolute. This is how folding speeches usually sound. This is how Chihuahua seems, even for a moment, to be a bulldog. Ganz bared his teeth in front of Netanyahu, but on the way he also sent an angry look at his friends in blue and white. Gantz is tired of Gabi Ashkenazi and Avi Nissenkorn climbing on him and trying to portray him as the defenders of the rule of law on earth. Gantz also conveyed a message to them. Which is no less than them. And that from now on they will look for another hump to climb on.

Both Netanyahu and Ganz are weak in the polls, and it seems that this is a significant factor in the decision of both of them, each separately, to continue together at the moment. As the power of the Likud and blue and white decreases, so do the alternatives that await the donor who will be injured. If not now then in 120 days. If everything goes as expected, meaning that everything goes even further for the two rival partners, then both Yair Lapid on the one hand and Naftali Bennett on the other are expected to be strengthened by their current power, which will prepare the ground for both possible candidacy for prime minister. While it is likely that the two no longer have the patience and would have expected to start the campaign this morning, the long wait may still turn out to be worthwhile.
