Sensational and rare offspring in Sinsöd: Surprisingly, Fleckvieh Herzal gave birth to triplets on the Stanner family's farm.
Sinsöd - farmers and vets did not expect this, because Herzal did not gain weight that much during pregnancy, reports Anni Stanner. "I actually didn't even think I had twins."
It was only when the birthing process began that the local Buch farmer noticed that Herzal was carrying more calves and contacted the vet for support. According to Stanner, the third cub was actually the largest.
The birth of triplets can be dangerous for the mother
The birth of triplets is quite stressful for cows and can be dangerous for the mother, explains the 58-year-old. Herzal had also retired two days before the due date and was no longer as fit. After giving birth to the cow calf and the two bull calves, the mother was “really thin and emaciated”. But the birth of triplets is also dangerous for the offspring. According to Stanner, not all calves often survive. She only had triplets once on her farm in Sinsöd. At that time, however, the mother and two young died in one of the first nights.
Anni Stanner: "That is a sensation"
After the initially uncertain days about the health of the four animals, the joy outweighs this time. Herzal is now on the mend, and according to Stanner, her children are also doing very well.
The Fleckvieh triplets are named Hanse, Haribo and Hilde. At our photo session they are only six days old, so the steps are a bit shaky. Stanner is very happy about the triplets and describes them as a sensation. The birth of three calves is very rare. She doesn't know any other farmers around her who have had the case before. "It's almost like winning the lottery."
