A new policy document by the Reut group claims that despite the rise in anti-Semitism among the black community in the US following the corona plague and the social protest that erupted after the killing of George Floyd, Jewish organizations in the US had a rare and short-lived opportunity to renew the historic alliance with the black community.

The premise is that in an age where "identity politics" is expected to shape American politics and society, taking the opportunity has the potential to delay or prevent the process of making Israel a one-party issue, and hence - become a key component in Israeli-US relations.

In effect, the document points to a temporary decline in anti-Semitism on the part of progressive radicals from the American radical left leading the current social protest. This decline is evident against the background of the flourishing of progressive anti-Semitism following the Ferguson riots in 2014, which were marked by #fromFergusontoPalestine. Indeed, attempts by anti-Zionist elements to introduce an anti-Israel agenda even during the current protests were unsuccessful.

Reut Group CEO Eran Shishon explains: "It was Ferguson riots that shaped the characteristics of social protest in the United States based on a theory called intersectionality, which allowed progressive left-wing anti-Semitism to flourish."

According to this theory, there is a great deal of overlap between the struggles of minorities and underprivileged populations and they all face an oppressive and white racist establishment. Therefore, this theory encouraged cooperation between different groups on the basis of 'solidarity - universal'. As a result, anti-Zionist groups succeeded in overthrowing Jewish organizations as part of this struggle, and in fact succeeded in doubling their power by supporting their campaign on the part of non-conflict organizations and groups, such as black community organizations and LGBT organizations.

"However," Shishon continues, "the current protest is based on a concept that sanctifies the uniqueness of black suffering and struggle, which is in tension with the universal conception of the theory of crucifixion. The dynamics created by the change in the characteristics of the struggle Their agenda for the struggle. "

Meanwhile, the document also refers to the dramatic rise of blatant 'classical' anti-Semitism among the black community (and from right-wing elements) whose main spokesman is Luis Farhan, the leader of the 'Nation of Islam' movement.

Daphne Kaufman, author of the document, explains: "The rise of classical anti-Semitism is worrying, but the Jewish community knows how to present a united front and there is a broad consensus against it in American society. However, progressive anti-Semitism is not condemned in American society. "Progressively discriminates against Jews because of their connection to Israel, it rejects the identification of Jews as a distinct collective and as a people, and it sees them as part of the privileged white establishment that is responsible for the power structure that enables the discrimination of blacks."

The document concludes that the use of the opportunity in the current situation by Jewish communities may affect the position of the Jewish community in the United States, Jewish identity and ultimately the relationship between Israel and the United States.

The current document is the first in a trilogy of documents dealing with various dimensions of the dilemmas and opportunities of Israel and Jewish communities in the current situation following the Corona and in the face of protests in the US. .
