UK: Young Eli Harrison did not hesitate to take risks to save lives • "He carried out the act with great naturalness", says his mother • "My son did not understand why we are excited"
When 11-year-old Eli Harrison walked on the pier with his family in the British Yorkshire area, his father spotted in the water, between the boats, a toddler who had apparently fallen and was in danger of death. The boy did not hesitate for a moment, jumped into the water, swam towards him and went out to the beach with him, when in fact he was saving his life.

"We walked to the pier with Eli, his older brother and sister, and then my husband shouted, 'There's a little boy in the water.' Within seconds Eli jumped in and performed the act of heroism. "It's obviously saving lives in a situation like this," Eli's mother, Kylie Harrison, told Sky News, who interviewed him after the incident. "The boy seemed to get entangled in a fishing net and in a moment of inattention on the part of his parents - just fell into the water. Eli brought him with the net to shore."
The survivor's family excitedly admitted to Harrison - and in appreciation gave him ten pounds. Asked why Eli was not afraid, his mother replied that "Eli is a very serious swimmer. He loves the beach and our parents are fishermen, so he lives here all the time. In any case, people should be aware at all times of the danger of toddlers falling into the water."
