On Saturday, with over 2000 new infections, a new record was measured since the highs in April.

The numbers have been rising steadily since July , which at times were only in the lower three-digit range. The fear of not being able to understand all the chains of infection if the number of cases increases too much is growing. At the same time, however, the number of acutely infected people fell just below the 17,000 mark. The RKI currently gives the R value as 0.9.

At the same time, there is growing hope that an effective corona vaccine will be approved soon . Specifically: the share of infections abroad is currently 42 percent. However, the informative value of these figures is limited. It can be assumed that returnees from vacation or other trips will be tested for the insidious coronavirus on average much more often than the rest of the population.

Update of August 25, 14:31: mask muffle may be used by schools in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) not be excluded from the flat-rate education. The Düsseldorf administrative court pointed this out on Tuesday. In

Two high school students only wanted to wear fly gauze as a face mask and had been banned from class. The two students defended themselves successfully in court. In the opinion of the court, the school had failed to limit the exclusion from classes at least for a specific period of time. Regulatory measures against students are basically possible.

Update from August 25, 2020, 9:08 a.m.: More and more districts in Germany are reporting new corona infections again . According to the Robert Koch Institute , the proportion of circles that have not transmitted any new infections has decreased significantly in recent weeks. "This trend is very worrying," states the RKI in its current situation report. "A further worsening of the situation must absolutely be avoided."

No further corona infections have been reported in only 15 districts across Germany in the past seven days . Two months ago there were 143 counties. Several hotspots are particularly affected (see update August 24, 6:15 p.m.). But the numbers in Munich * and Heilbronn are also giving increasing cause for concern. Update from August 24th, 6.15 p.m .: Germany currently has six hotspots in the corona pandemic . This reports Focus Onlinewith a reference to a current situation report from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI)from Monday.

Corona pandemic in Germany: Offenbach new coronavirus hotspot

Accordingly, the coronavirus hotspots are three Bavarian and three Hessian districts. They have a particularly high 7-day incidence, in some cases above the critical value of 50, which, according to the requirements of the federal states, provides for new restrictions in the corona crisis . Specifically, as of August 24, it is about the districts:

  • Offenbach : Hesse / 57.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days (7-day incidence)
  • Rosenheim : Bavaria / 53.7 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants
  • Ebersberg: Bavaria / 37.3 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants
  • Wiesbaden: Hesse / 34.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants
  • Frankfurt am Main : Hesse / 34.0 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants
  • Ingolstadt: Bavaria / 31.4 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants

In Offenbach in Hesse and Rosenheim in Upper Bavaria , the new corona restrictions are now being taken much harder again - and not only here. In focus: return travelers.

According to the Hessenschau, meetings of a maximum of five people or two households are allowed in Offenbach with immediate effect. A maximum of five people can sit at one table in restaurants. Until September 3, outdoor events are limited to up to 100 people, swimming pools are not allowed to allow more than 100 bathers.

Corona pandemic in Germany: Rosenheim south of Munich is also a coronavirus hotspot

A maximum of 50 people are allowed to attend events such as birthday parties or weddings. Furthermore, the city of Offenbach (around 130,000 inhabitants), which borders directly on the Main metropolis of Frankfurt, has set a curfew for restaurants, bars and pubs at midnight. Physical education is therefore prohibited in schools for the time being.

The Upper Bavarian city of Rosenheim (around 63,000 inhabitants), about 60 kilometers southeast of Munich in the foothills of the Alps and near the Austrian border, had recently tightened the corona restrictions . Means: Only 50 people are allowed to attend non-public events in closed rooms, in the open air only events for a maximum of 100 people are allowed.

Corona pandemic in Germany: R value for Covid-19 falls below 1

Update from August 24th, 4:45 p.m .: According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of reproductions - or R value for short - is 0.98 (previous day: 1.08). The RKI estimates the 7-day R at 0.97 (previous day: 1.07). Both values are based on the data status from August 24th, 0.00 a.m.). The R-value indicates the number of people who are infected by a case on average. In order to be able to cope with the corona pandemic, this value should be below 1. Now the R value is below 1 for the first time since August 13th, Olaf Gersemann tweeted from Die Welt.

Returnees and in the younger age groups make up a large part of the corona cases in Germany, the RKI announced in its current Covid-19 management report. "A further worsening of the situation must be avoided at all costs," reads there. According to the RKI, the increase in the younger population groups must be broken. In addition, older and vulnerable population groups must be protected from infections.

Corona virus in Germany: compulsory corona test for returnees could be dropped

Update of August 24, 13:20 : The Corona-test mandatory for returning travelers from areas at risk could be after the summer will be abolished .

According to information from the German Press Agency, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) submitted a corresponding proposal to his counterparts from the federal states for their switching conference this afternoon.

According to the concept, the rules for returning from risk regions are to be revised throughout Germany after the summer holidays. The last holiday in Baden-Württemberg ends in mid-September.

Corona tests: Laboratory reach their limits

Instead of obliging travelers from risk areas to take the test directly upon entry, a quarantine obligation should apply again. The quarantine could "only be ended by a negative test result in a test after five days at the earliest after entry," says the proposal.

The experiences from the last few weeks should be incorporated, also with a view to increasingly limited test capacities. The  health minister of the federal government and countries  advised on this Monday in a conference call as registered on the increase  Corona infections should respond. The corona test strategy as well as a party upper limit are on the agenda.

Corona in Germany: Mask requirements apply here for all students and teachers

Update from August 24th, 12.11 p.m .: In Schleswig-Holstein , mask compulsory at schools will apply from Monday (August 24th) . Students and teachers must wear mouth and nose protection on the school premises. This also applies to students before the age of six , according to the relevant regulation. The regulation also applies to extracurricular educational offers, such as open all-day schools and after-school care centers. Students and teachers also have to wear a mask on the way to school. In the classroom and in the same group, or if a minimum distance of 1.5 meters from other people can be maintained, there is no mask requirement. Even in physical education.

New hotspot in Bavaria - Corona warning level in the city in Baden-Württemberg

Update from August 24, 11.55 a.m .: The city of Rosenheim (Bavaria) has exceeded the corona limit values and reacted with restrictions with immediate effect (see initial report below). The city announced on Monday that the value was 53.7 new infections within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. In Baden-Württemberg , however, experts are alarmed. Heilbronn , the values are critical. According to the State Ministry of Health, the so-called 7-day incidence was last at just under 39 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Corona in Germany: RKI reports 711 new corona infections

First report from August 24th: Berlin - private celebrations and return travelers - the number of new corona infections in Germany is higher than it has been for a long time. In Germany, the fear of a second corona wave is growing. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin reported 711 new corona cases and three more deaths in connection with Covid-19 on Monday . At first glance, that doesn't look too dramatic. For comparison: on Saturday there were still 2034 new cases .

Corona numbers on Monday from Germany are conditionally meaningful

However, experience shows that after the weekend the health authorities often transmit less data, or not all health authorities transmit corona infections. So the numbers are only partially meaningful. The RKI only records laboratory-confirmed infections with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus, no suspected cases.

However, the officially confirmed new Covid-19 cases , the death toll and the active Corona cases play a central role. The peak of the new infections reported daily was more than 6000 at the end of March / beginning of April. In May the number was below 1000. But since the end of June the number of new corona cases has been increasing. The sharp increase in infections worries experts. Health officials need to track the chains of contagion to contain an outbreak. Experts warn that increasing numbers of infections could push health authorities to their limits.

Coronavirus in Germany: Number of reproductions above the critical level

The reproduction number * - R-value for short - shows the infection process about one and a half weeks ago. According to the RKI, the R value is currently 1.08 (previous day: 1.13). This means that one infected person infects a little more than one other person on average. Seven-day-R reflects the infection process from eight to 16 days ago. According to the RKI, this value is 1.07 (previous day: 1.16).

  • Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, at least 233,575 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.
  • According to the RKI, the number of deaths in connection with a corona infection is 9272.
  • 208,200 people have survived a corona infection according to RKI estimates.
  • According to RKI data, there are currently 16,103 active corona cases in Germany.

Only 15 circles without new infections - That says the 7-day incidence

The corona virus is spreading all over Germany. Circles that do not transmit any new infections to the RKI have decreased significantly since the beginning of August. The number of infections is skyrocketing in individual counties. A look at the so-called 7-day incidence * shows the occurrence of the outbreak. The cities and counties are having on the Corona map red marked color that the agreed value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants tear over the past seven days. Restrictions and measures should be implemented immediately at this value. If there are more than 25 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, the areas on the map of the Robert Koch Institute are marked orange.

New hotspot in Bavaria - city exceeds corona limit

The city of Rosenheim (Upper Bavaria) reacted to the 7-day incidence of 53.7 last weekend and imposed contact restrictions with immediate effect. Group stays in public spaces are limited to members of one household or to five people. Only 50 people are allowed for private celebrations, and a maximum of 100 outdoors.

Corona crisis in Germany - These federal states with an alarming 7-day incidence

The 7-day incidences are significantly higher in the federal states of Hesse, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin, and slightly above the national average in Rhineland-Palatinate, according to the RKI in its current management report (23 August). According to the RKI, the 7-day incidence across Germany is 10.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Hesse: 17.4
  • Bavaria: 13.9
  • Baden-Württemberg: 12.4
  • North Rhine-Westphalia: 12.0
  • Berlin: 12.0

For seven months, researchers all over the world have been trying to find out everything about the coronavirus. There are new studies every day. Many questions about Sars-CoV-2 are still unclear. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has examined areas of infection. In some places there have been a particularly high number of corona outbreaks. The result is surprising.

In Germany, but also in other European countries, the corona cases are increasing. Covid-19 cases are exploding in the USA. The death toll shocked. * Merkur.de and tz.de are part of the Ippen-Digital network
